Wäscherburg Castle

Archaeological findings suggest that a smaller fortification existed on this site as early as the 10th century, which was expanded in the 11th century. In the 13th century, the complex belonged to the Schenken von Schüpf. The first documented mention occurred in 1271 in connection with a knight named Konrad der Wascher, whose nickname gave the castle its current name. Following the decline of the Staufer dynasty, the castle passed to the von Rechberg family in 1274, remaining in their possession for generations. During the Württemberg City War in 1377, the complex suffered damage. Subsequently, the keep was expanded into a palas.
