Waikhartsberg

The first documented mention of Waikhartsberg Castle dates back to 1625, when Ehrenreich von Pranckh was named as its owner. Even at that time, it was described as a noble seat. Later, the property passed to Christoph Helmhart von Weißenwolff, who sold it in 1680 to Count Leopold von Kueffstein. In 1750, Waikhartsberg became part of the dowry of Leopoldine, daughter of Count Priesgott von Kueffstein, thereby coming into the possession of Count Johann Weikhart von Spindler. As he also owned the nearby Weidenholz Castle, both estates were managed together for some time. Countess Maria Spindler brought the properties into her marriage with Count Johann Christoph von Gilleis. In 1857, General Count Herrmann von Attems acquired both estates, but sold them in 1876 after a fire at Weidenholz to Josef Aichinger, who separated Waikhartsberg from the joint ownership.
