Waldeck Castle

The Waldeck Hunting Lodge is located in the area of the municipality of Geilnau in the Rhein-Lahn district in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The hunting lodge was built in 1797 on behalf of the Princes of Anhalt-Bernburg next to a mineral spring that was put back into operation in 1790. The spring on the grounds of the former castle park and the castle are separated from each other by Lahnstraße, with the spring located directly on the bank of the Lahn and the castle on the mountain side of the street.

Between 1966 and 1967, the interior of the building was redesigned. The three-story building has a cellar-like ground floor, from which a wide, two-flight staircase leads to the first floor. The upper floor is slated, and the roof is provided with segmental gables.

According to a report by SWR, the castle is also referred to today as a well house: "The associated "well house" has served as a studio and home for the painter Thomas Kohl for several years. The artist appreciates the spacious rooms in the formerly grand house."

A visit is only possible from the outside today.
