In Southwest Saxony is Waldenburg Castle, a structure in the Neoclassical style. Its history dates back to the 12th century, when it was built as a castle.

History+

The origins of Waldenburg Castle lie in a fortress, presumably built in the 12th century during the colonization of the Pleissenland by Hugo von Waldenburg. The complex was first documented in 1259, and the Lordship of Waldenburg in 1378, when it was owned by Friedrich von Schönburg. After its destruction by the Hussites in 1430, it was rebuilt as a castle. A fire in 1519 led to another reconstruction. In the 18th century, further security and renovation measures were carried out under Otto Ludwig and Albrecht Carl Friedrich von Schönburg.
