Waldleiningen Castle, a structure in a side valley of the Odenwald, near the Odenwald Limes, was conceived as a hunting lodge and expanded into a castle. It now serves as a specialized clinic.

History+

After the Princely House of Leiningen received new lands in the Odenwald in 1803 as compensation for lost territories, Prince Emich Carl zu Leiningen established a game park. An initially simple wooden structure was replaced between 1808 and 1810 by a Gothic ruin-like masonry with turrets. This structure was demolished under his son, Prince Karl zu Leiningen. From 1828, the current castle was built on the same site, inspired by British models such as the Scottish Abbotsford House. Its completion was achieved only in 1873 by the prince's successors.
