Waldmannshausen Castle (Elbgrund)

The origins of the Waldmannshausen family, considered the builders of the castle, date back to the 12th century, with documentary mentions between 1136 and 1138. In 1191, they were named as ministeriales and later rose to knighthood. The moated castle itself was built in 1486. After the castle fell into disrepair in the 17th century, it was restored in 1786 by Christian Heinrich von Erath. In 1790, the complex was expanded with an additional palace building. After 1835, the property changed hands several times until it came into the possession of the school country home association from Hagen in 1935.
