Walkershofen Castle

Walkershofen is first mentioned in 1284 as an estate of the Prince-Bishopric of Würzburg. In 1480, the Lochingers administered the Würzburg fief. In 1615, Walkershofen was sold to the cousins of Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn. At the beginning of the 17th century, the current castle was built under Philipp Christoph and Johann Dietrich Echter von Mespelbrunn and sold in 1718. Until 1798, the castle was owned by J. G. von Jakobi. After this, the owners changed frequently until it came into the possession of the Barons von Würtzburg. In 1936, ownership changed to the Schuch and Hahn families. After this, there were frequent changes of ownership again. In 1973, the now dilapidated castle was acquired and renovated by the Steinmetz family. For some time now, the castle has been owned by the Counts Neidhardt von Gneisenau.
