Waltershausen Castle

From 1619 to 1627, Georg Philipp Marschalk von Ostheim had the current castle complex built, initially as a single-story structure, on the foundations of an old fortified castle. About a hundred years later, the castle underwent further changes under the influence of Balthasar Neumann, who integrated a Rococo hall into the entire central building on the second floor. Balthasar Neumann gave this hall an ingeniously constructed ceiling, vaulted into the roof truss, with rich stucco work that has been depicted in many art historical works. The structuring is one of the finest creations of Franconian Rococo, giving the hall a festive character.

For the execution of public and private events, there is a multi-purpose hall in Saal and a guesthouse in Waltershausen. Furthermore, village libraries are available to interested readers in both parts of the municipality.

Since 2009, Saal has housed a coffee pot museum with over 2000 coffee pots from all over the world.
