In the Bavarian Rhön-Grabfeld region, Waltershausen Castle is an edifice built upon the foundations of a former defensive fortress. Today, it houses a museum.

History+

The origins of the castle date back to the early 17th century. Between 1619 and 1627, Georg Philipp Marschalk von Ostheim commissioned the construction of the complex, which initially rose as a single-story structure on the foundations of an older fortification. A century later, the castle underwent alterations attributed to the influence of the architect Balthasar Neumann.
