Walterskirchen Castle

The earliest mention of an estate at this location dates back to 1249. The Lords of Walterskirchen, originally vassals of the noble free lords of Asparn, later became ministeriales of the territorial princes. In 1217, the feudal sovereignty passed to the Passau Cathedral Chapter before it became a territorial fief granted to Otto von Walterskirchen. In 1332, the estate was pledged to the brothers Heinrich and Leutold von Hagenberg. After being damaged by Hungarian troops in the late 15th century, the complex was rebuilt. During the Thirty Years' War, specifically in 1645, the castle burned down.
