Wanghausen Castle is a historic building located in Wanghausen, a village in the district of Braunau am Inn in Upper Austria, Austria. It stands at an elevation of approximately 362 meters above sea level.

History+

The first written mention of Wanghausen appeared in 1240 in the “Monumenta Boica,” followed by a reference in the Meier Helmbrecht epic around 1280. The castle's origins are older, as it was the ancestral seat of the Acher family, whose earliest documented member, Herbordus de ache, appeared in records as early as 1180. In the 12th century, Georg Acher had the castle built as a single-story structure. After the Achers, the Kemater family took ownership in 1406. Christoph Kemater, the last of his line, died in 1585, after which his widow Felizitas married Georg Viktor Stückl. He sold the castle in 1623 to Erasmus Gratzer.
