Wartegg Castle (Rorschacherberg)

The origins of Wartegg Castle date back to 1558 when it was built by the Blarer von Wartensee family. During the French Revolution, it served as a residence for members of the noble Bombelles family; Madame Angélique de Bombelles corresponded from here with Madame Elisabeth de France. In August 1793, Monseigneur Leclerc de Juigné also sought refuge at Wartegg Castle from the turmoil of the revolution. In 1822, the estate passed into the possession of the von Thurn family, before being acquired in 1860 by the Regent of Parma, a descendant of French King Louis XIV.
