Wartenstein Castle

The castle was built in 1347 by the knight Tilmann von Steinkallenfels. In the 15th century, it was used as a Ganerbenburg (castle shared by co-heirs) and changed ownership in the 16th century to the Lords of Schwarzenberg. In 1583, the Barons of Warsberg became the new owners. In 1688-89, the castle was destroyed by the French during the Palatinate War of Succession. In 1704, the Baroque palace was built in the outer bailey under Lothar Friedrich vom Warsberg.
