Wartin Castle
The Wartin Manor House dates back to the 18th century. In the 19th century, neo-Gothic corner turrets were added. After 1933, a Gau-Führerschule (regional leader school) was established in the manor house.
After reunification, the Collegium Wartinum Foundation began to renovate the old Wartin Manor House and save it from decay. The foundation also aims to make Wartin Castle usable for the purposes of the European Academy association and to develop it into a center for art, culture, and science.
The castle is inhabited by the two professors Hans-Joachim Mengel and Charles Elworthy, who serve as chairman and director of the European Academy, respectively. The two scientists use Wartin Castle for, among other things, study weekends with their students, as well as for numerous other scientific, artistic, and cultural activities.
