Castle Weidenburg
Weidenburg Castle is located below the Weidenburg castle ruins in the southeast of the municipality of Kötschach-Mauthen.
The first documented mention of the castle dates back to 1615, when the complex was sold by Paul Khevenhüller to Christof Khrayl. From 1630 to the middle of the 18th century, the castle was owned by the Fromiller family. The three-story castle is a simple, three-story, cubic building with a hip roof from the 16th century. A chapel is attached to the east.
The chapel is a rectangular building with renewed wall sections and a rebuilt, square tower that cuts into the center of the choir. The tower has loopholes and segmental arch sound windows. A small room is attached to the north side of the chapel, which probably served as a sacristy. In the years 1994/95, the chapel was adapted and restored.
