Weidmannsheil Castle (Saaldorf)
The wooded area around Saaldorf served as a hunting ground for the lords of the House of Reuss. They also established a big game enclosure. From 1834 to 1837, Prince Heinrich LXXII of Reuss-Ebersdorf had the "Waidmannsheil Hunting Lodge" built in Saaldorf in the Neo-Gothic style by the Gotha court architect Gustav von Eberhard (1805–1880), which also served as a secondary residence. The dancer Lola Montez, who was a guest of the prince in 1843, also stayed here.
After the Second World War, the hunting lodge was expropriated by the Russian military government, but it is now back in the possession of the princely Reuss family and is used by a construction consulting and support company.
