Weil Castle

The listed building, in the classical style of Italian country houses, is currently owned by a company that wishes to remain anonymous. In the years 1819 and 1820, the magnificent building was constructed by the Württemberg court architect Giovanni Salucci on behalf of King Wilhelm I. The monarch used the small palace as a country residence near his stud farm, where proud Arabians and English half-breeds were once bred. In the 1890s, the noble horses were allowed to demonstrate their skills at the then-famous Weiler horse racing track. In addition, the monarch operated a silkworm farm on the area, which was once used for agriculture.

The estate, including the small palace, passed to Princess zu Wied in 1920, who, twelve years later, transferred it along with the stud farm to the State of Württemberg. The state eventually sold it to a private individual. From then on, the property changed hands several times, with owners mostly using it as a representative residential and office building. In the 1960s, a dance school taught its students waltz and tango on royal parquet. In 1997 and 2003, the small palace was thoroughly renovated. Significant sums from private and state sources flowed into the restoration.
