Weilar Castle, a structure that emerged from a medieval castle, stands in the Thuringian Wartburg district. Today, it serves as a retirement home.

History+

The first documented mention of the locality of Weilar dates back to 1153, with a ministerial family of the same name also mentioned. The original castle at times belonged to both Hersfeld Abbey and Fulda Abbey. In 1498, the name of the von Boineburg family first appeared in connection with Weilar, when Ludwig von Boineburg received fiefs from Count Wilhelm von Henneberg. In the 18th century, the castle was converted into a palace, with parts of the original masonry and outbuildings preserved.
