Weildegg Castle
Weildegg Castle, also known as Waldegg, is located in the village of Würmlach in the municipality of Kötschach-Mauthen.
In 1537 (documented), the Villach councilor and merchant Hieronymus Weyland the Elder converted a manor house in Würmlach into a Renaissance castle. Today, the property belongs to the Aichwalder family, who rent out holiday apartments in the castle and occasionally make the building available for cultural events.
The castle is a fortress-like, three- to four-story, square building with four circular corner towers and a hipped roof. The attic floor is pierced by loopholes, and on the east side, above the entrance, there is a machicolation. Windows and doors are framed by sgraffito fascias. The two biforium windows above the eastern and western entrance gates belong to a large hall with painted coats of arms of the Kulmer and Gängel-Ehrenwert families from 1648.
