Weilerbach Castle is located in Bollendorf-Weilerbach in Rhineland-Palatinate. Originally built as a summer residence for the abbots of Echternach Abbey and as an administration building for the Weilerbach ironworks, it is now a place of recreation.

History+

Echternach Abbey acquired an ironworks near Bollendorf in 1762. Since production expansion was not possible there, Abbot Emmanuel Limpach decided to build a new, larger ironworks at Weilerbach. The new ironworks was built between 1777 and 1779, followed by the construction of Weilerbach Castle by 1780. The plans for this came from the Tyrolean master builder Paul Mungenast. After being occupied by French revolutionary troops in 1794, the castle was confiscated and auctioned off to Nicolas Vincent Légier in 1797. After several changes of ownership, the Luxembourg industrial family Servais acquired the property in 1832 and owned it for over 150 years. During World War II, the castle was severely damaged during the Battle of the Bulge and stood empty for a long time.
