Weißdorf Castle, once a fortified moated castle, is situated in the municipality of Weißdorf in the Upper Franconian district of Hof. Its history is closely linked to the noble family of Sparneck and was transformed into a baroque country house.

History+

The first documented mention of the Weißdorf knight's seat dates back to July 13, 1364. For centuries, it was owned by the Sparneck family, who ruled in this region. A representative was Hans II von Sparneck, who served as court master and marshal to Burgrave Friedrich V of Nuremberg and received the allodial estate in Weißdorf back as a fief. His son Hans III was a knight and bailiff of Münchberg. Around 1430, the complex was attacked by Hussites. In the 16th century, the influence of the Sparnecks waned. Sebastian von Sparneck, who appeared as a robber knight and ally of Hans Thomas von Absberg, led to the destruction of the castle by the Swabian League in 1523.
