Weißig Castle

The first documented mention of the locality Weißig, then known as “Weissigke,” dates back to 1469. A battle on May 19, 1813, on the Eichberg claimed over 3700 casualties on both sides. In 1913, a monument was unveiled at this location. In the early 20th century, Weißig Castle served as a hunting lodge for the von Steinitz-Kolbitz family. In 1921, Ulrich Prince von Schönburg-Waldenburg acquired the Weißig manor. The last private owner was the Berlin lawyer Adolf Oeren, who purchased the hunting lodge and the Steinitz estate in 1922.
