Weitenburg Castle in Starzach has been transformed from a defensive fortification into a versatile residential castle. Its architecture combines elements from various epochs.

History+

As early as 1062, a fortified castle is believed to have existed on this site, attributed to the Lords of Weitingen. The first documented mention of Weitenburg Castle occurred on June 15, 1437, in the context of a feud. At that time, the liege lord Hans Pfuser von Nordstetten captured two envoys of Count Ludwig of Württemberg. This led Count Ludwig to plunder the castle, abduct Pfuser's wife, and execute one of his servants in Tübingen. After the conflict ended, Hans Pfuser regained the castle. The “Ehingerbau,” a three-story stone house with a large gabled roof, forms the core of the castle and was largely built in 1585 by Jakob von Ehingen. As he remained childless, he sold the estate to Duke Johann Friedrich of Württemberg, who promptly resold it.
