Weitwörth Castle

The origins of Weitwörth Castle date back to the 17th century. The site, once the Oberpichl estate, was acquired in 1665 under Archbishop Guidobald von Thun. Archbishop Max Gandolf von Kuenburg had a hunting lodge built here in 1671 and a park laid out. However, the originally planned name Gandolphswörth did not prevail. In 1726, the castle underwent its first alterations under Archbishop Franz Anton von Harrach, followed by renovations in 1777, during which stones from the dilapidated Haunsberg Castle were also used. In the 19th century, the castle was redesigned again, this time by Valentin Ceconi. Between 1821 and 1867, it served as a court seat. In 1863, it came into the possession of the Auersperg family.
