Welda Castle

The construction of Welda Castle took place between 1734 and 1737 under the direction of architect Justus Wehmer. The builder was Hermann Adolph von Haxthausen, who served as the Grand Marshal of the Prince-Bishopric of Paderborn at the time. The design of the castle, which resembles Vinsebeck Castle in its H-shaped floor plan, was enriched by the Kassel Baroque sculptor Johann Georg Kötschau, who was responsible for the figural decorations. The castle's foundation rests on wooden piles and is surrounded by a moat. Between 1756 and 1763, an orangery and other outbuildings were added. The castle park, a Baroque and landscape garden of about one hectare, was designed by garden artist Carl Hatzel and features a lime avenue with a rondel at the southern access road.
