The origins of Wernstein Castle date back to the 13th century, with its first documented mention in 1239 as “Castrum Durnowe”. The castle was built in 1376 by the Lords of Künssberg. In 1563, the structure underwent a transformation into a Renaissance castle. During the 16th and 17th centuries, the castle was rebuilt and expanded multiple times.
