Werther Castle

The first documented mention of the estate dates back to 1295. From 1385, it was a feudal possession of the Counts of Ravensberg, who in 1526 granted it to the Counts of Hatzfeld. The Hessian Counts of Hatzfeld owned the estate until 1803, but never resided there themselves, preferring to have it administered. In 1840, the property came into the possession of the then District Administrator of Halle, zur Hellen, and served as the district office from 1843 to 1855. From 1887/88 it was sold to the Weinberg company, which operated a cigar factory there until 1938.
