In Saxony-Anhalt, Weteritz Castle is a historic estate, once owned by the von Alvensleben family and later by the Roth family. The building, surrounded by a landscape park designed by Peter Joseph Lenné, stands empty today and is succumbing to decay.

History+

Weteritz Castle was built in 1831, originally for the von Alvensleben family. Concurrently, from 1830 to 1831, the associated landscape park was designed by Peter Joseph Lenné. In 1857, the estate changed hands, passing to Carl Heinrich Theodor Roth, a ducal-Anhalt official. His family managed the property until its expropriation in 1945 by the communists. Carl Heinrich Roth was honored for his contributions to the cultivation of the fields with the Order of a Knight 1st Class of the ducal-Anhalt House Order "Albrecht the Bear." His son, Hubert Roth, was a dendrologist, and the Weteritz park was recognized in 1934 during the annual meeting of the German Dendrological Society.
