In Radebeul-Zitzschewig, in the district of Meißen in Saxony, Germany, stands Wettinhöhe Castle. Originally a mountain guesthouse and later converted into a villa, it is located on one of the steep vineyards of Radebeul's Johannisberg.

History+

The history of Wettinhöhe dates back to the 15th century, when the hilltop was owned by the Bishops of Meißen. The name Wettins Höhe has been documented since 1758. By the mid-19th century, a winery with a vintner's house existed here. In 1858/1859, a wine tavern was built on part of the estate, which was expanded into a restaurant building in 1867. The Prussian Chief Canon Alfred Piper acquired the property in 1875 and had it converted into the current Wettinhöhe Castle between 1879 and 1880 by the Ziller brothers.
