A historic moated castle, Weyer Castle, is located in Kematen an der Krems in the Linz-Land district of Upper Austria, Austria. It is now privately owned and undergoing extensive renovation.

History+

The origins of Weyer Castle date back to possibly the 8th century with donations from Duke Tassilo III to Kremsmünster Abbey, confirmed by Charlemagne. First documented as a monastic estate of Kremsmünster Abbey in 1299, it was enfeoffed to Heinrich Raidt in 1319. By 1500, Hans Raidt owned the moated castle, followed by his son Otto and grandson Ulrich Raidt, who sold it to Balthasar Wiellinger in 1557. After further changes in ownership, including Georg Fenzl, Weyer Castle was united with Piberbach Castle through marriage, forming a fideicommissum. This combined estate passed to Siegmund Hager von Allentsteig und St. Veit in 1707. After his death in 1768, the property was sold to Leopold Freiherr von Eiselsberg, before Kremsmünster Abbey repurchased Weyer in 1769.
