Wieblingen Castle

The manor house was already mentioned in a deed of gift to Lorsch Abbey in 782. Around 1727, the castle and the extensive park were built. Stables and a barn were built in 1772, the large courtyard gate in 1778. Further expansion took place in 1823 under the family of Imperial Baron von La Roche-Starkenfels. The house also underwent significant renovations at the beginning of this century, before Elisabeth von Thadden's Protestant rural boarding school for girls filled the previously vacant rooms with new life at Easter 1927. Elisabeth von Thadden was executed by the National Socialists in 1944 for alleged "subversion of military strength and aiding the enemy". Her grave is in the old chapel. The most prominent student was the Heidelberg-born and current Queen Silvia of Sweden.
