Wieck Castle

The origins of Schloss Wieck date back to the late 18th century, when Franz Heinrich Erich I von Lepel had a new manor house built between 1793 and 1797 on the site of an older structure. In the mid-19th century, from 1845 to 1859, the estate underwent modernization and renovation under Franz Heinrich Erich II von Lepel and his wife Mathilde, with involvement from architect Richard Lucae. During this period, the surrounding park was also transformed into an English landscape park and a burial chapel was added. The writer Bernhard von Lepel, who married here in 1847, was a frequent guest and corresponded with Theodor Fontane from Wieck. Ecclesiastical gatherings also took place at Schloss Wieck.
