History of the Building+
Early History and Destruction+
The predecessor castle was built in the 10th century but burned down in 1659. Wolf Adolph von Werthern had the building rebuilt between 1664 and 1666. The upper or rear house was demolished in the 18th century due to dilapidation.
Post-War Period and GDR Era+
The von Werthern family was dispossessed as part of the land reform; the house was cleared and plundered. Initially, refugees and displaced persons were housed in the castle. In the 19th century, the castle was restored. From 1946, it was used as a school, later as a training center for VEG Pflanzenproduktion Memleben.
Recent Developments+
Since reunification, the building has stood empty.
