The origins of Wiesenburg Castle date back to the 12th century, with its first documented mention as a burgward in 1161. In 1456, Friedrich Brand von Lindau was enfeoffed with the castle and surrounding lands by the Saxon Elector Friedrich II. After the devastations of the Thirty Years' War, the complex recovered only slowly. In the 18th century, Adam Friedrich August von Watzdorf was the owner. A comprehensive restoration took place in 1864. After World War II, the castle was expropriated and served as a school until its closure in 1992. A private investor acquired the property in 1996 and fundamentally renovated it, with works completed in 2003.
