Wiesenfeld Castle, a structure with roots in the 13th century, is in Wiesenfeld near Coburg, a district of Meeder in the Upper Franconian district of Coburg.

History+

The first documented mention of the village Wiesenfeld dates back to 1231, with the manor house, considered its core, likely being older. In 1688, Duke Albrecht of Saxe-Coburg transferred the estate to Baron von Born, who already owned Moggenbrunn Castle. After Born's death in 1694, the property passed through Johann Christian Gärtner to Johann Caspar Scheres-Zieritz, Chancellor to Duke Albrecht, in 1697. Scheres-Zieritz resided at the manor until his death in 1704, subsequently endowing it for the care of impoverished men. This Scheres-Zieritz Foundation has been managed by the Coburg State Foundation since 1921.
