Wiesensteig Castle

In 1434, a castle in Wiesensteig is mentioned for the first time. It was probably just a better residential building and served as the seat for the Lords of Wiesensteig, former Helfenstein vassals, who are traceable until the 15th century. In 1551, Count Ulrich XVII of Helfenstein laid the foundation stone for the castle, a wing of which still exists today. It served as the residence for the comital family until their extinction in 1627. In 1596, a pleasure garden in the Italian style was created near the castle. During the Fürstenberg and Bavarian periods, it served as an administrative seat. In 1806, Wiesensteig became part of Württemberg and, together with the towns of Neidlingen and Ochsenwang, formed an Oberamt.
