Wildbach Castle
Wildbach Castle is a castle in the market town of Deutschlandsberg in Styria. Its history dates back to the 13th century. Today it is privately owned.
Originally, the site of the present castle was home to a single-story fortified house from the 13th century, built by the Lords of Wildbach, surrounded by walls and a moat. After the Wildbach family died out, the Staindorfers came into possession of the property. In 1499, the estate passed into the possession of Paul Parcival von Sunneckh, who had been allowed to call himself 'von Wildenstein' since 1470. Between 1534 and 1540, Sigmund von Wildenstein replaced the residence, which had been destroyed by the Turks, with a new building. Between 1730 and 1788, major renovations took place, giving the castle its current appearance. In 1793, Josef Edler von Mosmüller acquired the castle. He was followed by a Count Liechtenberg and Johann Massegg as owners. From 1960, it belonged to Dr. Mihurko. Today it is owned by several private owners.

The castle has four corner towers, two of which date from the 16th century. The facade features fine ocher-colored stucco work above the windows from around 1730, as well as rusticated plasterwork on the building corners. The southeastern tower has an inscription dated 1534 in the basement and a memorial stone from 1540 on the eastern side. The western extension and the small courtyard of the castle date from around 1730. The inner courtyard has a two-story arcade pair. The northern three-story central building with the staircase was erected in 1788, as indicated by an inscription on the south side. A clock is located in the gable of the central building. Above the castle's entrance gate, an inscription plaque commemorates Franz Schubert's visit in 1827.
The walls of the staircase and the second upper floor are adorned with fine stucco work. Remains of wall decorations are still present. Furthermore, several Rococo and Empire stoves can be found in the castle.
The castle chapel is dedicated to Saint Anna and received a mass license in 1681. The sacred space was later desacralized. The altar dates from around 1760.
