In 1050, the local nobility of Wildberg from Ulsenheim built a hilltop castle. In 1242, Manegoldus de Wildberg transferred his property to the St. Marx Monastery in Würzburg. In 1326, Bishop Wolfram pledged the Wyelberk fortress to Knight Heinrich von Seinsheim as a hereditary castle fief.
