Wildenau Castle

The first documented mention of Wildenau Castle occurred in 1383, naming Wilhelm von Aham as its owner. He was the progenitor of the Wildenau line of the Aham family, who held the castle until 1764. Wilhelm von Aham served as ducal court master and administrator in various locations. His successor, Erasmus von Aham, also an administrator and later a councilor to the Bavarian Duke, witnessed the castle's first fire. After the Aham family, the Imsland family took over the estate. Baron Franz von Imsland had the castle furnished from 1699 onwards, but it was plundered by Austrian soldiers in 1703 during the War of the Spanish Succession. Later, ownership changed hands again, returning to the Aham family, until Johann Eustach Graf von Aham, the last of his line, died in 1764. In the 19th century, the castle suffered severe damage from several fires and plundering.
