Wildenberg Castle (Brunskappel)

The origins of the site date back to 953, when a chapel is said to have been built under Brun of Cologne. After the founding of Grafschaft Abbey, the chapel and the associated manor belonged to the abbey's property. The current form of the castle began in 1295, when Widukind of Grafschaft had the residential tower erected and a Romanesque chapel rebuilt. After his death, his widow Adelheid von Wildenberg inhabited the complex, which gave it its name. For a time, it served as the residence of a collateral line of the noble lords.
