In Wildenfels in Saxony, Wildenfels Castle stands on a mountain spur above the town. Its history dates back to the 12th century, and today it houses a unique feature: nearly 300-year-old, originally preserved silk wallpapers in the Blue Salon, which, after extensive restoration, shine in their full glory once more.

The origins of Wildenfels Castle predate the year 1200, when the family of Wildenfels began constructing their feudal seat. The oldest part of the complex, originally the palace of a castle, is located at the western end of the hill and was later converted into a granary. The other buildings, which form the majority of the current castle, were erected in later construction phases. From 1602 to 1945, the castle was owned by the Counts of Solms-Wildenfels. They had the front part of the castle built and later redesigned for residential and representational purposes. After the expropriation and expulsion of the owners in 1945 by the communists, parts of the castle were used as living space. Since 1990, the complex has undergone extensive renovation.
