Wildenheid Castle

The first mention of the area as "Wildenheyde" dates back to 1317. Between 1340 and 1347, a settlement developed there, belonging to the noble family of Schaumberg. At the beginning of the 15th century, the Lords of Kemmaten received the village and the surrounding heath as a fief. They laid the foundation for the so-called Lower Castle in the early 16th century and created ponds for fish farming, including the Waldfriedensee, which originally served as a sheep pond. In 1551, the knight's estate was divided by sale, after which Wilhelm von Schott built the Upper Castle. The Lower Castle passed to Georg Truchseß von Henneberg in 1569.
