Wildenreuth Castle

The castle is already mentioned in the 11th century as being in the possession of the Lords of Wild. Their lineage died out in 1602. They were followed by the Barons of Pudewels (Podewils), who still inhabit the castle today. In 1851, the castle burned down and was subsequently rebuilt.

The Main Building

The main building of Schloss Wild is a magnificent example of Renaissance architecture, with later additions reflecting Baroque and Neo-Gothic styles. The impressive facade, adorned with intricate stonework and decorative elements, immediately captures the eye. A prominent feature is the central tower, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

Inside, visitors can explore a series of grand halls and chambers, each with its own unique character. The Great Hall, with its high ceilings and ornate frescoes, was once the setting for lavish banquets and celebrations. The castle chapel, dedicated to St. George, houses beautiful stained-glass windows and a historic altar.

The Castle Gardens

Surrounding the castle are extensive gardens, meticulously maintained and offering a tranquil escape. The formal gardens, laid out in the 18th century, feature geometric patterns, sculpted hedges, and vibrant flowerbeds. A charming rose garden, with a wide variety of historic rose species, adds to the romantic ambiance.

Beyond the formal gardens, visitors can discover a picturesque English landscape park, complete with winding paths, ancient trees, and a serene pond. The park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, making it a popular spot for nature lovers and birdwatchers.

While still a private residence for the von Pudewels family, parts of Schloss Wild are open to the public. Guided tours are offered regularly, providing insights into the castle's rich history and architectural significance. The castle also hosts various cultural events throughout the year, including concerts, exhibitions, and historical reenactments.

The castle grounds, including the gardens and park, are accessible to visitors during opening hours. A small café, located in the former stables, offers refreshments and light meals. The castle shop sells souvenirs, local crafts, and books about the castle's history.
