In the Chiemgau region, high above the Prien valley, stands Wildenwart Castle, a four-winged complex with a corner tower. This structure, which took on its current form around 1600, is characterized by an inner courtyard enclosed by arcades and is closely linked to the Bavarian royal family.

The origins of Wildenwart Castle date back to the 12th century, when a precursor building was erected. The estate changed hands multiple times and served as the center of the Wildenwart lordship, which held high jurisdiction until 1806. Around 1600, the complex was rebuilt into its current form, and the former moat was transformed into a garden. A turn in the castle's history occurred in 1862 when it was acquired by Archduke Franz V of Modena-Este and his wife Adelgunde of Bavaria. Through inheritance, it came into the possession of the Bavarian royal family.
