Wilfersdorf Castle

The estate's origins date back to 1436 when it came into the possession of the Liechtenstein family, who have owned it continuously ever since. Around 1600, Gundaker von Liechtenstein initiated the conversion of the medieval castle into a four-winged moated castle. In the early 19th century, around 1802, Prince Alois von Liechtenstein had parts of the castle – the north, south, and east wings – demolished due to dilapidation, leaving only the west wing and the ancillary buildings. The castle suffered damage from French troops in 1809 and served as a Prussian field hospital in 1866. Towards the end of World War II, it was severely damaged again but was restored in the post-war years. Restoration and revitalization work took place in 2001 and 2002.
