Wilfersdorf Castle
Liechtenstein Castle Wilfersdorf is located in the Lower Austrian Weinviertel in the municipality of Wilfersdorf. It has been in the continuous possession of the Liechtenstein family since 1436 and still serves today for the administration of the princely estates in Lower Austria, which also include the well-known princely Hofkellerei (court winery).
Around 1600, Gundaker von Liechtenstein had the Gothic castle converted into a four-winged moated castle. Prince Alois von Liechtenstein had the north, south, and east wings demolished around 1802 due to dilapidation, so that today only the west wing and the ancillary buildings remain. In 1809, the building was devastated by the French. In 1866, it housed a Prussian field hospital.
Towards the end of the Second World War, the castle suffered severe damage, which was, however, repaired in the following years. In 2001 and 2002, the existing buildings were restored and revitalized. Since the furniture was also moved when the Liechtensteins left the castle, today's exhibitions are mainly dedicated to the family trees of the Liechtensteins.

The main building has been leased by the municipality of Wilfersdorf for many years and now serves as a regional cultural and exhibition center. The multifunctional ballroom on the ground floor allows for seminars, presentations, and small conferences. On the upper floor, an extensive documentation on the history of the House of Liechtenstein is displayed. A cozy castle cellar is located in the basement. The Wilfersdorf Local History Museum has found a place in one of the ancillary buildings. In summer, events such as operettas are also held in the square in front of the castle, but these are not part of the Lower Austria Theater Festival.
