Museum

In Hanau, Hesse, Wilhelmsbad Palace is a former spa complex that today is a state park and houses a museum. Originally built around a healing spring, it became a place of recreation and social gatherings.

History+

The origins of Wilhelmsbad date back to 1709, when, according to legend, a healing spring was discovered. At the behest of Hereditary Prince Wilhelm IX/I of Hesse-Kassel, who resided in Hanau from 1764 to 1785, construction of the bathing and park complex began in 1777. Franz Ludwig Cancrin was the responsible architect. On June 3, 1779, after only eighteen months of construction, the complex was officially opened.
