Willisau Castle, originally a defensive tower, is now a Baroque edifice in the town of Willisau in the canton of Lucerne, Switzerland.

History+

The origins of Willisau Castle lie in a defensive tower, the Chutzenturm, which was part of the city wall. Between 1690 and 1695, it was converted and expanded into a castle, serving as the residence for the bailiff of Willisau. The architect of this transformation remains unknown. The interior of the castle was adorned with Baroque elements such as stucco, grisaille paintings, and carvings. A feature on the first floor is a cycle of paintings from 1638 depicting the Holy Blood legend.
