Wimmis Castle is in the municipality of Wimmis in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland. It functions today as the municipal administration.

History+

The origins of Wimmis Castle date back to around 1100, when it was constructed. Initially, it was owned by the Lords of Strättligen before passing to the Barons of Weissenburg. In the late 13th and early 14th centuries, specifically in 1298, 1303, and 1334, the complex was besieged multiple times by Bern. A turn of events occurred in 1339, when the Baron of Weissenburg helped his former adversaries achieve victory in the Battle of Laupen. Between 1439 and 1449, Bern acquired the castle along with the territory of the former district of Niedersimmental.
