Windischleuba Castle

The origins of Windischleuba Castle date back to 925, when it was founded as a fortress. Around 1244, Heinrich von Kohren and Hugo zu Stolberg were the owners, before the feudal lordship passed to the Burgraves of Leisnig after 1300. The von der Gabelentz family owned Windischleuba until 1650. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle burned down in 1632. Georg Ernst von Zehmen acquired it in 1678, followed by Sophie Elisabeth von Lindenau in 1739. In 1880, Börries Freiherr von Münchhausen purchased the dilapidated property and had it rebuilt in its historical forms by 1886.
