Wiser Castle

The castle's origins trace back to 1704 when Count Ferdinand Andreas von Wiser acquired the former Bettendorff estate, which had been destroyed in 1688. On the foundations of this noble court, he commissioned the construction of the current Wiser Castle in 1710. The Vorarlberg master builder Johann Jakob Rischer was responsible for the design, which stylistically bridges the Renaissance and Baroque periods, showing Upper Italian influences. In 1737, the Counts added a Loreto Chapel to the castle courtyard, housing the image of the “Black Madonna of Leutershausen.” This effigy was transferred in 1907 to the newly built parish and pilgrimage church of St. Johannes Baptist in Leutershausen.
