South of Weeze in the district of Kleve, Schloss Wissen is a moated castle. For 500 years, it has been the seat of the von Loë family and is one of the noble residences in the Lower Rhine region.

History+

The origins of Schloss Wissen date back to the 14th century when it was built as a residential tower. In the 16th century, the castle was rebuilt in the Dutch Renaissance style, followed by a Baroque redesign in the 18th century. Between 1876 and 1886, the ensemble was given a Neo-Gothic character and expansion under the direction of Vincenz Statz. The most recent renovation and modernization of the interiors took place in the late 1960s and early 1970s to repair war damage and renew the building fabric.
